The Saanich Peninsula and the Metchosin and Sooke areas feature a lovely rural lifestyle and setting to be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.  The rustic Gulf Islands lie within a short boat- or ferry-ride and reward visitors with beautiful rural settings and an abundance of art and crafts.  Travel westward through Sooke and Jordan River to Port Renfrew to visit forests and stunning ocean beaches.  Bicycle from downtown Victoria to Sidney or along the Sooke River with its falls and potholes to Leechtown - an abandoned gold-mining town in the middle of the forest where the Leech and Sooke Rivers and Wolfe Creek flow together into one.  The nearby Cowichan Valley is a short drive over the stunning Malahat pass, boasting 5 or more vineyards and a cider works to visit and enjoy.  You will also find many more arts and crafts in this vicinity.
